New Rules (Commenced 2011)
2011 saw the introduction of two new rule changes into netball in NSW, following endorsement from Netball Australia. The changes to Rule 3.4.2 and Rule 7 are as follows: New: 3.4.2 Team Officials and bench players may coach while play is in progress provided that they remain seated or stand at their Team Bench. Coaching is also allowed during intervals (refer Rules 2.1 and 2.2) and during Stoppages (refer Rule 7). Team Officials and bench players may not indulge in inappropriate comments or behaviour (refer Rules 20 (iv) and 20.1.2). New: RULE 7: STOPPAGES Coaching is permitted during any Stoppage by any Team Official who may approach the players at the Side Line. Bench players may approach the Side Line if coaching occurs. During a Stoppage any Team Official may approach the players at the Side Line for the purpose of providing rehydration. (Refer Rule 3, 7, 7.1, 7.2, 7.3).
All Australian Section 1 Theory Exam
If you are umpiring for Cherrybrook and/or working towards an Umpire Badge you need to have completed this course. This exam is set by Netball Australia and tests the basic rules of the game. It is available online at www.netballaustralia.coursehost.com/ On successful completion of this exam, a certificate can be printed off and a copy should be supplied to your Umpire Convenor who will submit it to the HDNA Umpires Convenor. Successful completion of this course is a prerequisite before either the Umpires Certificate or a National Badge will be awarded. Pass marks in this exam are valid for 6 years.
The pass marks for this exam are: C Pass 70% - 79% Umpire is eligible for an Umpires Certificate and National C Badge B Pass 80% - 89% Umpire is eligible for a National B Badge A Pass 90% - 100% Umpire is eligible for a National A Badge
Netball NSW Rule Book
A Netball NSW rule book can be purchased at any time from Umpire Control, HDNA Pennant Hills Umpire Uniform
HDNA would like to encourage all umpires to wear whites for every game however it is not compulsory during the normal competition season. Umpire whites consists of a white dress or white skirt/pants and white top (with collar).
OR
Club uniform with Club jacket, Club rugby top or Club polar fleece. This means no track pants or casual jackets/jumpers. All white or ALL Club uniform. Do not mix between the two.
During finals, "all white" is compulsory.

Umpires for Netta Teams
Games are held on a Friday evening at Pennant Hills and each team is required to supply a parent or sibling (over 16) to umpire for their team. Hills organize umpire training every year and Cherrybrook will cover the cost of the training for any parent or sibling of a Netta player to enable them to umpire these games. The course is held over a 3 week period (March 21, 8 and April 4) from 6pm to 8pm. If you are only available to to attend 2 of these sessions, you can attend the makeup course to be held on Sunday 20 May. Please consider becoming actively involved in your child's netball and volunteer to be their team's umpire this season. Further information is available from the Club's Umpire Convenor.

HDNA Umpiring Procedures Before you leave home, check that you have AT LEAST the following items: 1. Whistle 2. Hair band / ring (to keep track of centre passes) 3. Drink bottle 4. Rule Book 5. Club name and team number you are umpiring for When you arrive at HDNA 1. Arrive at least 15 minutes before your umpiring game 2. Go to the Umpires Window STRAIGHT AWAY 3. Find the correct timeslot page 4. Find the actual team you are umpiring for 5. Print your name beside the team name 6. Write your court number on your hand 7. If you have any questions, ask at Umpires Control
Move to your court (check your hand if you cant remember the court number!): 1. Introduce yourself to the other umpire 2. Check 1 team (look for correct length of fingernails, correct uniform and no jewellery) 3. Ask the team to do a toss and let you know of the results 4. Pick your side of the court 5. Check the court for dangers and equipment (rocks, sticks, 2 goal rings) 6. Wait until the buzzer goes to start the game
General Information 1. Never start a game with only 1 umpire 2. If you have any problems, get someone to come to Umpires Control 3. If you can't make a game, let your Club Umpires Convenor know straight away 4. Always aim to umpire your best at every game
